Tell us about what your job entails:

The main part of my job is researching and analysing different investments and funds for our in-house investment strategies as well as for clients. I also provide commentary and analysis on what is occurring in financial markets and the global economy and outline expectations on the risks and opportunities that they present. My job also entails working in the investment team to devise and propose asset allocation and fund changes to our in-house investment strategies and presenting these to the Investment Committee.

What do you like about being an Investment Analyst/part of the Investment Team:

I think that the best part of my job is that there is always something different going on in markets not just every day or week, but every month and year as well. It is always interesting researching and reading what is causing markets to move the way they are and how these events could impact the performance of clients’ portfolios. It keeps me updated and busy as well, particularly if there is a major economic or financial event occurring.

Another part of my job I like is researching new investment ideas, whether that is for our investment strategies or something more specific based on a client’s particular preferences, needs and circumstances. Every day is always different.

What is great about living and working in Cornwall:

My favourite thing about living in Cornwall is being close to the surfing beaches on the north coast. If the surf looks good, I will put my board on the car, drive up to the coast and spend a summer’s evening surfing until the sun sets. I usually travel up to Watergate Bay as that is my favourite place to surf. I also learnt how to surf there when I was a child and continued to practice during the summer of 2020, my first summer living in Cornwall. I also enjoy paddleboarding if there are no waves, which still gets me out on the water which is important to me.

I also really enjoy driving, which is another good thing about Cornwall, you need to have a car to get pretty much anywhere! I live in Falmouth so there are some good roads to get to the beaches, but I also like especially long road trips with some fun roads to drive on, especially coast roads where you can also do some scouting for surf.

Tell us something about yourself:

I love travelling! So far, I have visited 30 different countries and territories across 5 different continents. These range from the busy urban areas of Thailand and New York to the calm and natural beauty of Fiji and the Caribbean. My favourite place to visit has definitely been Singapore because of its outstanding beauty, architecture (particularly in Marina Bay and the Jewel within the airport), the country’s cleanliness and the whole vibe of the place.

Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea are some of the countries towards the top of my bucket list of places to visit at some point in my life. I have flown into Australia but that was only to change planes, so I am definitely not counting that!
