Name: Paul Bannister
Job Title: Wealth Manager and Director
Tell us about your role(s):
My role at Taylor Money has grown since I joined in 2013 and is essentially split into two elements.
Primarily I am one of the Wealth Managers here at Taylor Money. This role involves working closely with my clients to structure their wealth and invest their funds in line with their financial position and objectives. As life changes, so do clients’ plans, and part of our ongoing partnership is to update plans and strategies to account for these along the way.
My other role is as a Director of the company, with oversight and responsibility for our ongoing compliance. Essentially this involves ensuring that we continue to provide the best possible wealth management service to our clients; making sure that all aspects of our business processes and practices are geared to producing the best outcomes for our clients.
How did you come to work in wealth management?
After finishing university, I started working for Santander (Abbey National as it was at the time) in 2004. There I undertook a variety of roles including cashiering, progressing to be a banking adviser and eventually a mortgage and protection adviser.
During 2010 I made the move to Halifax, taking up a role as a financial adviser there. I completed my qualifications there, the old level 3 exams and in turn the level 4 diploma as the industry rules progressed. With the introduction of the Retail Distribution Review, I could see that Halifax (and most high-street banks) were not able to operate in the manner they wanted. I also wanted to provide a wider financial planning service to my clients. I met Jonathan in 2013 and jumped at the chance to join the team.
Since joining Taylor Money, I have undertaken my Advanced Diploma in Financial Advice (with 2 different examining bodies) to become a Chartered Financial Planner so that I am able to provide the best possible advice to my clients.
What is great about living and working in Cornwall:
I love the work life balance that we have. You can go from the office to the beach (or golf course as is more common for me these days) in a matter of minutes. The local area is something that I probably take for granted a little too much having grown up here, however, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!
Tell us something about yourself:
Outside of work I am keen golfer, having been reluctantly dragged along by a good friend a few years ago! However, the majority of my time is spent volunteering with my son’s football club. I took up the role as an assistant coach around three years ago and have since done my level 1 and UEFA C coaching qualifications recently.
I now look after the U13’s Ospreys team for Falmouth Community Youth Football Club and am proud that Taylor Money now sponsor both teams in this age group. It is great to be able to give something back to a local club, having grown up being part of a local sports team. As such, I have also volunteered to be the co-treasurer of the club!
When not involved in one the above activities, I enjoy spending time with my wife, son and daughter, often on a beach walk with our dog.
